Eine ereignissreiche Woche

So, nun sind wir ersteinmal ‘durch’ mit allen Kindergeburtstagen. Gross sind sie jetzt alle, endlich alt genug, um in die Schule gehn zu duerfen und, vor allem, endlich Fussball zu spielen!

Timon hat es geschafft, naechstes Wochenende melden wir ihn zum Soccer an und endlich darf er ganz offiziell spielen.

Am Donnerstag hat uns dann auch mal wieder das Wildlife in Australien einen Schrecken bereitet und uns daran einnert, das wir doch vorsichtig sein muessen.

Wir hatten seid Wochen ein Spinnennetz neben unserer Eingangstuer. Und seid Wochen retten wir diverse Babyschlangen, kleine Lizzards, und was sich sonst noch so verfangen hat, daraus.

Am Donnerstag morgen noch haben die Jungs mit kleinen Stoeckchen das Netz zerstoert und ein wenig in dem dahinterliegendem Spalt herumgestochert.

Abends sind Thomas und ich dann noch mal weggefahren, uns ein Eis zu holen. Ich wollte bloss mal nachsehen, ob die Spinne es denn endlich aufgegeben hatte, ihr Netz zu erneuern, oder ob sie schon wieder fleissig war. Also Licht an und nachgesehen.

Sie war gerade dabei, alles wieder neu zu spinnen. Bei etwas genauerer Betrachtung ist mir dann ein ‘Sch….’ herausgerutscht, was Thomas dazu bewegt hat, doch glatt nochmal aus dem Auto zu kommen und selber nachzusehen. Eine wunderschoene, weibliche Red Back Spider… die sich kurz darauf ins Jenseits verabschieden musste. Mir haben im nachhinein noch die Knie gezittert, als mir klar wurde, was die Jungs da morgens gemacht haben. Man sagt ihnen (den Red Backs) ja nach, sie seien friedlich, aber wenn jemand mit Stoeckern im Haus herumwuehlt, weiss ich ja nicht, wie lange sie da friedlich bleiben, bis sie so zubeissen.

Naja, ist ja alles gut gegangen und bis jetzt ist auch noch kein neuesNest dort!!!!

Am Samstag morgen sind wir dann Richtung Port Stephens aufgebrochen, um Freunde von uns, Dave und Jenny in One Mile Beach zu besuchen. Sie sind dort zum campen gewesen und hatten uns schon das Wochenende vorher eingeladen, sie zu besuchen.

Dieses Wochenende nun endlich haben wir es geschafft. Und, was soll ich sagen, WAR DAS KLASSE! Der Campingplatz ist quasi direkt am Strand. Super gelegen, super angelegt, sehr sauber. Naechstes Jahr wollen wir dann, wenn wir noch einen Platz bekommen, eine Woche bis zehn Tage mit ihnen zusammen dort hin.

Am Sonntag sind wir dann erst einmal eineinhalb Stunden am Strand spazieren gegangen, bevor wir dann mit allen zusammen Joshi beim Geschenke auspacken zugesehen haben.

Heute nun holen wir Australia Day nach, da er ja auf einen Samstag gefallen war. Morgen ist dann noch frei und am Mittwoch legen Merle und Joshi dann wieder los und am Donnerstag hat Timon seinen ersten Tag.

Somit “Happy Australia Day”  

Für die Statistik

MEine Ergebnisse sind offiziell immer noch nicht da, aber Thomas hat bei der verantwortlichen Frau mal nachgefragt. Und die war so nett, ihm meine Ergebnisse zu geben, da es offensichtlich einige Probleme mit dem Versand gegeben hat und noch mehrere Briefe nicht Ihren Bestimmer erreicht haben.

Jedenfalls habe ich auch acht von neun Punkten!!! Alles in allem aufgerechnet war Thomas zwar einen halben Punkt besser, aber Durchschnitt ist Durchschnitt! Ich freue mich, hätte eher mit 6.5 oder sieben Punkten gerechnet um ehrlich zu sein!!

Seid Montag, respektive gestern müssen wir jetzt auch beide wieder zur Arbeit, so schnell waren die drei Wochen Urlaub vorbei… Der Alltag hat uns wieder!

Und in zwei Wochen hat dann Timon Geburtstag, kurz drauf Josh und in drei Wochen sind die Ferien zu Ende. Merle geht dann auf die große Primary und nicht mehr zur Infant, Joshi hat sein letztes Jahr an der Infant und Timon wird auch endlich ein großes Schulkind!!!

Endlich!!

Just in time (as his international driver licence expires by the end of the week)!!!

Today, finally we had time to go to the RTA to get Thomas´ german drivers licence changed into a NSW licence!

The funny thing though was (keep in mind what I had to go through) that in the end he didn´t need ANY translation. The Guy working there was more than happy to issue his licence even without the (not official accepted) transaltion from the Consulat which worked for me.

Funny…. one´s supposed to understand all that.

Well anyway who´s interested in rules if you don´t have to follow…..

The end of the story is that Thomas now is the proud holder of a NSW driver licence  

BUT he is even happier that he got his IELTS test results today, whereas I didn´t. For whatever reasons!

He did great and has an average of eight out of nine points! I reckon that´s awesome keeping in mind that we are no native speakers. And I don´t know if I should look forward to get my results (hopefully by tomorrow!!!!!!) or be scared!??!?!?!

Happy New Year 2008

Happy new year to all of you.

I hope you had as a good party as we had.

This year again, we went to the CBD to see the 9 o´clock firework as well as the 12 o´clock firework.

And this year we´ve been prepared. Two days earlier we went to the CBD , trying to find THE one spot!

And… we found it (had a backup spot just in case, though).

So Monday morning, 10 am, Thomas drove Gaby and myself into the City to mind the spot before everybody else would came later during the day. Otherwise the kids would have been bored by noon or so.

The two of us had a great time, heaps of drinks and things to eat, coffee, magazines, books, etc!

By the time all the others (21!!!!!! more) came, we haven´t hardly read anything, hadn´t eaten nor drank anything…. people surrounding us were too entertaining!! (This time I promise I will send some pictures to let you see the rising amount of crowds. When we arrived there were probably ten more spots minded, by midnight you couldn´t see any more lawn)

And, before I forget it, we didn´t get THE number one spot, but number two and I was really pleased the whole day with the great, undisturbed view to the Harbourbridge and the Opera right in front of us… loved it!!!!

We had nice chats with two of our “neighbours” there, exchanged even addresses.

By 6 pm everyone was there and the kids were so bubbly and excited! The crowds got more and more drunk but overall it was okay, nearly no fights, hardly any arguments. They said on the news today, with more than 1.5 million people just in the City centre they just had 94 people arrested across the whole of Sydney. Which I reckon is marvelous!

At nine o´clock the Family Firework started and itself was bombastic. It lasted around six to seven minutes and after that, the big hour glass installed on the Bridge counted down the hours till midnight! 

After that, two families left and some of the kids had a nap. The others kept themselves quite entertained till at midnight, the big firework started. And goodness me it was awesome!!!

As I wouldn´t know where to start to explain it, I hope to keep my promise asap and send you some of the pictures. They just did an amazing job to set the Bridge “on fire”. It was the best firework I have seen (and I saw the last three now!). Although I must say that I preferred the Heart in 2005 to the Hourglass, whereas Thomas preferred the hourglas… Anyway we agree that it was truly amazing allover again.

After we had packed our stuff we had to get to the nearest Trainstation which wasn´t a problem. We had to get on the Train, which wasn´t as easy. Last but not least we had to get home, which was problem!! That Train was more than packed (we expected that), it was slower the usual (okay, didn´t expect, but fine), no, I repeat NO (zero, null, cero, nill) aircon!!!! I´m not kidding, we had at least 45 to 48 degrees in that carriage. The kids looked like theyhave had a shower and just forgotten to take their cloths off. And instead of an hour it took us more than two to get home.

So far our experience with the trains obviously have been lucky as we never had any bad experiences before and were always wondering why everyone was complaining. Now we know!    And I can´t see why, I mean New Years Eve doesn´t come as a surprise, does it?

You know it at least a year before ;-)  , don´t you?

Anyway, we came home, after having a terrific day out there, enjoying the australian way of life in it´s perfection with the best ever firework and a couple of our best friends. Missed some others dearly though. But I can assure you: we thought about you heaps!!!!!!!!
